This special edition reinterprets a defining artwork from Pelikan’s early visual heritage and transforms it into a contemporary writing instrument.
At the heart of this edition lies Tippel’s 1899 poster "Grundfarben," created for Pelikan’s first poster competition. His work exemplifies the powerful dialogue between artistic expression and brand communication at the dawn of modern advertising.
Tippel’s "Grundfarben" presents the pelican as a nurturing parent caring for its young - a symbol rooted in historical legend and long associated with devotion, responsibility and trust. Through form, colour and composition, Tippel transformed a commercial poster into a narrative image of enduring resonance. His work communicates not only a product, but a set of values - continuity, responsibility and commitment - that still remain central to Pelikan today.
By transferring a historic work of advertising art onto the barrel of the fountain pen, this edition continues Pelikan’s tradition of transforming cultural heritage into objects of writing art - a masterpiece reimagined for the present.
A subtle yet expressive detail from Tippel’s original artwork defines the design of this edition. The flowing cloud formations from the sky of the 1899 poster have been reimagined as an abstract, rhythmic pattern across the decorative sleeve of the fountain pen.
The softly contoured forms interact with light to create depth, movement and a delicate shimmering effect. Framed by semi-transparent warm brown resin components, the motif harmoniously connects historic artwork with contemporary craftsmanship.
Crafted using the sophisticated Aurora process, the barrel features finely engraved guilloché structures beneath multiple layers of lacquer, creating a luminous surface tha enhances the visual presence of the design.

To ensure your order arrives in time, we encourage shopping early. While we do our very best to ship quickly, holiday shipping carriers often experience delays that are outside our control. Please allow a little extra time for your package to reach you during this season.
Pre-orders and special orders may also take longer than usual, with some items requiring up to 2 additional weeks beyond our normal turnaround times.

We have a hassle-free return policy at Pen Place which allows you to return any non-personalized item, for any reason, within fourteen (14) days of the date of receipt. The delivery date will be determined by your UPS or USPS tracking number. If you wish to return an item within the fourteen (14) days allowed, please ensure the item is in new condition and has all original packaging that were shipped with your order. There is a 30% restocking fee for all returns.
If you would like to return an item, please email us at contact@penplace.com or call us at 816-474-7500 and state why you would like to return the item. Pen Place will return your communication to approve or disapprove return of the item. If the return is due to the wrong product being shipped, Pen Place will send and pay for a return label. Otherwise, the customer will pay for and supply the return label. Refunds will be processed when the item is received at Pen Place. The customer will be refunded to the credit card or PayPal account they paid with and will be the next day after the item is received by Pen Place. Returns will be shipped back to:

Shipping charges will not be refunded unless we made an error in the order. Items that have been engraved cannot be returned unless their was a misspelling of the name. If an item is returned, but is not in new condition, the item will be returned to you and you will not receive a refund.
